Hidden Print

An exploration of the non-printed characters that are used by designers everyday to help determine the typographic layout, but are rarely acknowledged.

The concept of this piece is to make the viewer more aware of the functions that these hidden characters represent by making them visible, but in a way that depicts how they are typically shown.

The final piece was screen printed, using a clear over varnish for the hidden characters to represent their lack of visibility. The decision to depict the characters in this way goes beyond an aesthetic choice, but further reinforces the message.
